Healthy Chef Review
I get to try the Healthy Chef too, thank you very much. We are home for a week long (or short) vacation, which means there isn't a lot of time to get properly acquainted with Mr. Healthy Chef. Do you see the irony here? We come home for a vacation, most people leave home instead. We're backwards!
Anyway, the Healthy Chef is an impressive little dude. Its rice-cooking magic keeps me from overcooking rice, which is a chronic problem that I suffer from. Just set the timer for the amount of rice that you want to cook and when it's done Mr. H.C will beep and let you know that it's done. Effortless! LOVE!
You can steam veggies without turning them into mush, which is also another one of my chronic problems. One of my favorite things about this product is that you can also steam veggies while the rice is cooking for a quick and non-mushy meal. AWESOME! I'm really looking forward to using the steamer for homemade vegan sausages too, though I might have to wait until our next vacation for that.
I am not yogurt's biggest fan, but I wanted to try the yogurt making feature anyway just to say that I've made yogurt. It was way better than the store bought stuff, because those are always too sweet for my taste. The little jars that come with the Healthy Chef are great. Instead of one big jar you get six individual servings.
My favorite part about the dehydrator feature is the awesome smell that takes over the house while it's working its magic! I dehydrated some strawberries, oranges, lemons, raspberries and dates at the same time, and the house smelled like a delicious fruity sorbet! The five trays are very convenient to dehydrate different things at the same time. This was my first time using a dehydrator and it has been so much fun. The Healthy Chef would be ideal for someone that wants to start eating more raw foods, but still enjoy the goodness of steamed veggies and perfectly cooked hot rice.
Another big plus is that it's a piece of cake to use, and cleaning it couldn't be any easier because you can just stick everything in the dishwasher (except for the base - duh!) It's bigger than I expected too, it's not some tiny little toy appliance that makes five apple chips at a time. Our kitchen is rather small, so I keep him in the laundry room. He seems to like it there. Oh yeah, whoever wins this puppy is in for a treat!
Here's what I have cooked up with Mr. Healthy Chef so far:
We had some veggie wraps for dinner. While I made the tortillas, the rice and veggies cooked together in happy unison. Can you see the rice below the tray?
This was my first time ever making yogurt! I was a bit skeptical of my yogurt-making abilities but it turned out excellent. The Healthy Chef comes with six cute jars (and lids) like the one pictured below.

Vegan yogurt with berry goodies and date "sugar"
I saw somewhere (can't remember where) that you can make "date sugar" out of dehydrated dates and use it as a sweetener in cereal and smoothies, so here's my attempt. Because of my impatience and instant-gratification issues, the dates weren't entirely done when I removed them from the dehydrator. The result was similar to brown sugar because there was still some moisture in there. Patience, Daniel-san. Wax on, wax off.
I don't have a powerful blender like a Vitamix or Blendtec, so my green smoothies are either lumpy with green goopy stuff floating around, or it's too much work to drain them to make sure they're smooth and not like some icky Fear Factor challenge.
*light bulb over head*
Dehydrated greens ground to a powder + smoothie = lump-free green smoothie!

Green powder ready to work its magic...
There are things that I don't like doing when I'm cooking. Zesting stuff is one of them. I have a big beef (or is that a seitan cutlet?) with zesters/graters, but I love what lemon and orange zest can do to spice up recipes.
*light bulb over head*
Dehydrated lemon/orange peel + Magic Bullet = dry zest on call!
I ground the dehydrated peel until it was almost a powder, and I used the orange zest to perk up some orange-cranberry cupcakes. The aromatherapy that was going on while the stuff was in the dehydrator was insane! Now I have orange and lemon zest in a spice jar ready to go whenever I need it.
The lemon zest came in handy when I ran out of fresh lemons for my tea.
I only had a few days to play with it for now, so I didn't just want to make apple and banana chips or dehydrated tomatoes. Everybody knows that dehydrators can do that, I wanted to see what else was possible, and found that the possibilities are endless!
See you guys on July 9th for the big winner announcement! Good luck to everyone! I miss you all, though I have been inconspicuously lurking around your blogs during my blog break. Mwahahaha! :-)
*light bulb over head burns out*

What a cool appliance! I would go all sorts of crazy especially with the yogurt maker.
i did a big squeeeee when i saw you'd posted river!!
it's a shame that the comp is only open to US peeps cuz that machine does look awesome. i love the idea of dried lemon & orange peels, it makes me sad to throw away zest when i only use the juice, so most times i grate it off and freeze it!
I am actually IN AWE of this contraption! Wow! I love yoghurt and probably eat a container a day... so I could use this to make my own and save some money! But everything you mentioned sounds great, I'd love to try it all...
I have a dehydrator that is older than dirt, but we still seem to manage to use it, but mostly for herbs right now.
For everything else takes 'FOREVER', with that said, we dry our mint (which is growing like wildfire), oregano, basil and hopefully soon our parsley's (we are growing both curly and flat and they are both doing quite well).
But we have dried (in the past) bananas, but our favorites are apple chips. Man we could put down an orchard in no time.
Glad to see you back in action.
P.S. This is Monk's last season :(
WOW! Sounds like a pretty cool appliance. Um, I would definitely try my hand at coconut milk yogurt first. YUM!
oh wow, this appliance looks and sounds amazing! if I won, I'd love to be able to mess around with the yogurt maker as well as the dehydrator! how exciting!
It's so good to have you back--if only for just one post! Multipurpose appliances are so cool. Just think of the space saving capabilities of this! And the dehydrated orange?! Super awesome! Oh, and I will be posting a link to this on my blog :)
Yay a quick River update! This guy sounds really cool! Maybe a helpful appliance buddy for you on the road? I *think* date sugar is supposed to look like that..well, at least yours look identical to the one I purpose in the market. Hope you're having a fun summer on the road! Squirrels say hi..if you see any of their national park cousins perhaps you can say hi from their eastern grey cousins? lol!
Ooh, lovely! I would be so thrilled to experiment with yogurts. I could make them with all kinds of "milks" and finally have access to totally unsweetened yogurt! I have also been wishing for a dehydrator, but it hasn't been in my budget.
Good morning! It's so nice to see a post from you. I'm a fellow Austen fan and vegan and I always enjoy reading your blog.
This machine sounds amazing. I'd love to dehydrate some fruit and make yogurt out of my favorite sesame seed milk. I also like your green smoothie idea, as my blender is old and doesn't always blend the greens into my smoothie.
Enjoy the rest of your summer! I look forward to reading more from you in September!
Oh, I want it!!! And I have an address in the US. :)
You don't need to put me in the contest as I already have everything but a yogurt maker (although I would like to try yogurt making, but I'm trying to save space too), I just wanted to say that your zest idea is awesome, I LOVE it. Doing that very soon :)
Wow, that sounds like an amazing appliance! I've been thinking about getting both a dehydrator and a steamer, so having both in one (and more!) would be great.
So many things come to mind, but I think the first thing I would do is dehydrate some berries. That's one of my favorite snacks, and I'd love to be able to make my own.
Great to see you, River! Wow, what a great give-away! I have been coveting a dehydrator for a while now but, alas, no money for one! Your Mr. HC looks like a great tool! My mom made home-made yogurt when we were kids. Fond memories of something I'd like to try myself!
RIVER!!! Haven't talked to you in... hours?? Hahaha ;-)
I'd love to dehydrate some raw tomato basil bread, since my folks ate all the slices that came with my Pure Raw Café meals, haha.
I got so excited to see a post from you River! I miss you so much!!!
That thing is AMAZING! I would love to win it. I desperately need a dehydrator so I think I would try that out first.
The green powder is such a great idea though!
Homemade fruit leather! MMMM. Not to mention all of the healthy snacks, crackers, and treats that can be made with that many functions all in one appliance! This is definitely going on my wishlist!!
i would use it first to make the buckwheat crispies from ani's raw food kitchen! :) thanks for doing the giveaway. everything you've made looks awesome.
What a sweet surprise! Hello! Getting ready for a bit blog break meself - traveling for 2 weeks, then temporarily settling up on the Olympic Peninsula, the Seattle. Please let me know if you'll be in my neighborhood this summer!!
Wow, what an amazing giveaway. I would love to have this in order to dehydrate fruits, vegetables, etc. so I can try to experiment with raw recipes more often. Thanks so much!
Yay, you are back blogging. I am glad you aren't gone until September. I have missed your blog. It is a nice break from the chaos in my life right now.
What an awesome giveaway. This seems like the perfect appliance. I could definitely use it. :)
Thanks for hosting such a terrific giveaway.
xoxo
Krys and the little guys
Good to see a post from you! Hope all is going well and I can't wait till you're back for real in a few months!
That Healthy Chef looks pretty cool! I've always wanted to dehydrate my own crackers, so I think that's what I'd use it for first. Then yogurt because I hate throwing away all those yogurt containers!
This looks really cool! We eat lots of yogurt around here and I've wanted to try making our own... and I love your ideas about dehydrating zest and greens for smoothies... we'd probably also use the dehydrator for dehydrating fruit for snacks for my daughter (who has quite a sweet tooth)!
Our community house used to have an amazing dehydrator that left with a roommate two months ago. The eight of us don't know what to do with ourselves. This thing looks amazing!
I was so excited to see Wing It Vegan in my google-reader again *SQUEAL*!
I've missed you River!
I can't win the 'jack of all trades' contraption (thanks Lexen meanies!) but I'd like to enter and donate it to an American chum (should I be so lucky...).
If I had this gadget I would use it steam me some seitan snosages.
Enjoy the rest of your brief staycation >:)
......I'm off to buy a MONK mug for The Veggiesaurus now (he was very jealous last time he saw yours!).
First, I'd make good rice. I have not been able to make good brown rice in all my 40 years.
Then, I'd make all those interesting-looking dehydrated vegan burger recipes in my raw food cookbooks. I'm just so curious about them.
OMG! This sounds like heaven! I've been needing a dehydrator for my raw days (to make flax crackers and such) and I love yogurt but hate all the sugar in the storebought kind. Man, I hope I get randomly generated (which sounds a little dirty, but you know what I mean)!!!
I can't wait to dehydrate some fruit!
So much orange zest!
i hadn't heard of this gadget before - it sounds glorious! i want to do everything it can do. for dehydrating, i'd want to do tons of fruit. then, i'd learn how to make all sorts of raw foods stuff.
Okay, this looks amazing, I have never even heard of anything like this! I have never made yogurt, that is what I would be most excited to make.
I linked your giveaway on my blog
Woah, your dehydrated greens and zest tricks are amazing! I would LOVE to try the yogurt making feature, I LOVE yogurt, plain, with fruit, in smoothies, in desserts!
I think I'd focus on dehydrating fruit first (starfruit, melon, papaya, strawberries, etc.) and then move on to yogurt so that I can make a fun parfait!
And I posted a link here!
http://groovethang.blogspot.com/2009/06/perfect-multi-tasker.html
Wow, I would LOVE to win this appliance! I've been eyeing some of Swell Vegan's and Ani Phyo's dehydrator recipes, but I don't have a dehydrator. Also, what an economical use of space to have 4 appliances in 1! Thanks for hosting the give-away!
I would love to try some of the raw crackers and such.. i think your ideas are brilliant! Also seasonal fruits and veggies to have on hand during the off seasons or to take camping.
Wow!
Zest and the aroma in your kitchen as it is dehydrating. That sounds great!!
Yay! I would make some yogurt, for sure! :)
I think I'd probably just make dried pineapple and rice with all the time. Yum!
Mmmmm... yogurt! Zest! Dehydrated fruit! Fruit leather! Steamed veg and rice!! All from one appliance!?!? I do believe I am in love...
I've posted your giveaway on my blog as well...
great giveaway! i'd love to dehydrate fruit and raw macaroons!
mstav517@yahoo.com
very cool! i had no idea such a thing existed. i would love to give the dehydrator a try.
Ohmygosh, how awesome! I would love love love to start dehydrating (I'm trying to work in more raw foods) and making my own yogurt... and to be able to steam and cook rice too, all with the same nifty gadget? How cool is that? The first thing I would do would be to dehydrate some fruit :)
I steam vegetables frequently and have always wanted to try dehydrating veggies also...
Thanks!
For my second entry, I posted about the give-away on my blog, 3horsepowervegan.blogspot.com.
Thanks!
emily
eggplant jerky! and i have been wanting to make yogurt!!!!what a nice contest.
leavesareyummy@ix.netcom.com
Wow, what a crazy little machine! Yogurt *and* dried fruit? Sign me up!
Seriously, tho, am way intrigued by the yogurt function, especially since soy yogurt isn't exactly cheap. Would love to brew some strawberry-banana or lemon-blueberry yogurt, yum!
How exciting!
Having just recently changed completely over, I am having to learn new cooking/recipes. This would help tremendously!
I have wanted a dehydrater for so long now. I love all of the raw food possibilities it opens up!
raw crackers and fruit leather!
i want to dehydrate every vegetable and fruit I can find at the farmer's market, but especially strawberries.
Living in Florida, we get all kinds of interesting fruits and veggies that would be great steamed or dehydrated. How good would it be to be able to make your own homeade yogurt and eat it with your own dehydrated goodies!!!
What an interesting appliance! I'd love to dehydrate stuff and make yogurt in the same machine!
COULD IT BE? Miss Wing It Vegan, back from (not the dead)? I've seriously missed your posts, you are always so much fun to read and your pictures are worth a million words. Thank you for makin a come back :)
I would so so soooo love to dehydrate flax "flatbread" for raw foodie burgers or "cookies". Fruit leather would be great too! Gosh, what a catch!
-Natalie
so glad to see you back, even if it's for just a quickie. god yes, i would love this. i am all about the dehydrator feature, plus i miss making cute individual yogurts. which recipe did you use? does this thing come with sheets? i would love to try out some gluten free flaxy or corny things with this.
xo
kittee
Wow, all your eats look amazing as always! I was JUST thinking about you and wondering how your travels (as a banjo player in a honky tonk band?) are going.
I would love a dehydrator and I would love to make yogurt. I totally agree that store soy yogurt is too sweet. Unsweetened plain yogurt would be great for curries.
And because I really want the gizmo...here's my blog post.
http://vegandance.blogspot.com/2009/06/wing-it-giveaway.html
What a great gadget and you are awesome to host this giveaway! This is weird but I somehow lost my rice cooker and I absolutely cannot get rice to turn out proper on the stovetop, so I would love to have a rice cooker again. I am also dying to dehydrate gluten free crackers!
I love Monk and I love that you have a Monk mug.
Living on a budget, I often buy fruit from the supermarket at the end of the day, when it's up to 75% cheaper. I've made dehydrated apple rings, fruit leathers and all sorts, but my dehydrator requires a lot of room, and as such gets put into the cupboard in an 'out of sight, out of mind' way.
On of my fav things to do is to take pulp left over from juicing, mix with a little fresh fruit, and make super fibre snackbars. They are tasty and use up something that would otherwise be thrown out!
Sadly, I'm a UK person, so no dehydrator for me. However, can I nominate VeganDad of http://vegandad.blogspot.com/ please? Why, two reasons, firstly in respect to his newborn daughter and second, because everything recipes of his which I've ate has been nom... hence nom n'ate ;)
Hi River.
Please enter me for this AWESOME give away and if I am lucky enough to be picked I would like to give it one of my American blogging buddies.
:)
Wow, this thing sounds really neat. I'm really temped to try different vegan yogurts (soy, coconut, almond, whatever works). But it would be great to have a dehydrator, too...
i want to make dried cranberries so i can stop chowing down on the overly sweet ones from the store!
of course i want in on this crazy multi-tasking contraption action. i'll totally post a link to your blog as well. we're expecting in december and can use something around the house that can cook rice, dry, and make yogurt when we can't. can it change a diaper?
xo jewbacca, that pain in the ass vegan
oh that is way too cool! i would dehydrate all kinds of fruits and try to make veggie chips, too!
as usual, your writing cracks me up, you are so darn cute :)
The yogurt sounds like a challenge... and I'll go for it! Great product!
Oh, there are so many things I would love to do with this, I think first, I would like to dehydrate some fruits and veggies for my kids to bring as school snacks.
I put a link to this post on my blog: http://crazyveganmom.blogspot.com/2009/06/cool-product-giveaway.html
I linked you here: http://eatnvegn.blogspot.com/2009/06/heads-up.html
Fun!
A combination steamer/rice cooker is good enough, but throw in a dehydrator *and* yogurt maker. Just incredible!
I would love to experiment with dehydrating different things. And I love having fresh made yogurt.
I think the biggest appeal to me is the assumed ease of the Healthy Chef. It seems like it would fit right in my household - myself being a little more adventurous and knowledgeable than my boyfriend. It would be something we could both use.
I have been DYING to try my hand at eggplant bacon!
oh where to start...vegan yogurt all the time...all sorts of dehydrated fruit for the kids, and the parents...i would love to experiment...but yogurt is looming in my mind...
I would definitely just start with some fruit leather. But I also agree with other posters that I would like to experiement with all sorts of things. Maybe vegetable "crackers"! I also linked back to the contest on my blog. Thanks!
I'd love to be able to make yogurt from different non-dairy milks. Lucky you to have one of these to play with!
Wow - never heard of this appliance, but I am in love! This sounds great! I would love to make homemade vegan yogurt and to dehydrate so many foods, such as to make dried bananas and raw crackers.
This machine looks amazing! I make raw snack foods for my job and I always wish I had a dehydrator at home. If I win this, I would use the dehydrator function first, probably to make a dessert or if not dessert then a meal, like raw falafel!
Genius appliance! I love the idea of steaming veggies while cooking rice!
I am most excited about making homemade non-dairy yogurt and dehydrating vegetables/fruit! Also, dehydrated raw cookies and crackers would allow me to be more creative in the kitchen!
P.S. I love MONK! I want your tea mug, too...lol.
mmm banana chips.
Oh WOW, that thing sounds awesome! If I had one, I'd go for dehydrated blueberries, for sure.
Woe for those of us living in Australia! I can't enter, but I just wanted to say a big hi and it is very exciting to see you back, if only for a day! Looking forward to your grand return and more yummy yummy foodage.
I am intrigued by the yoghurt making abilities. I have been wanting to make my own yoghurt for ages now. Haven't gotten around to it yet.
This is one of the neatest appliances I have EVER seen. I would definitely love to make my own yogurt. I just can't find a taste for all the soy yogurts and would love to try my hand at my own! Great giveaway!!
Hi River - what an awesome contest - while I am not in the US I would love to give it to one of my awesome US blogging friends - but the possibilities - I wonder if they ship to Aus?? I would love the yoghurt maker - and did you know a rice cooker cooks perfect quinoa?? How cool.
Yay! My son loves dried fruit so it would be a blast making it for his lunches.... and mine.
I would make veggie chips to bring to work and avoid that scary vending machine!
I would make those raw tamale wraps.. or make my own dried mango and peach slices... mmmmm
Wow. As a (vegan) engineer, I must have this just so I can examine it! I'll likely use the dehydrater the most (your date sugar foray has me most intrigued).
Wow, this sounds like one awesome machine. I'm especially digging your zesty resourcefulness.
Wow! What a cool kitchen appliance. I would love to make vegan yogurt. We go through it quickly here and I would love to make our own. Thanks for hosting the giveaway. Very nice!!
I love multi-taskers! Especially would like to make my own soy yogurt... Thanks for the great give-away.
Kate
I have always wanted to make my own yogurt! And steaming veggies?! I really want a veggie steamer...mine always turn to mush!
Courtney
Wow- this is my dream appliance! I've been wanting to experiment with more raw foods in my diet, but took a delicious-seeming cookbook back to the store because 90% of the recipes involved a dehydrator... and not only is it not in the financial cards right now, I'm also a bit uptight about not having my countertop and cabinets cluttered with appliances. A 4-in-1 fun machine?? It's for me. I love your idea of "powdering" things. I'd also love to make my own soygurt-- it's hard to buy any that isn't full of sugar an/or gelatin!
I've never heard of a multi-tasking appliance like this before! I'd love enjoy home-made yogurt (made with ease!) rather than buying the very sweet non-dairy yogurt at the store. Also, with an abundance of frush summer produce (on sale!) I'd be all over the dehydrator to up my raw intake, mmmm!
Wow! Its nice to have you back posting... and that looks amazing!! I'm about to try making yogurt on my own soon but something like that amazing contraption could make cooking/steaming/yogurt making/etc. so much easier!
I also linked back from my blog!
http://elizabethedith.blogspot.com/2009/06/giveaways-of-week.html
I'm very excited about this product - I eat a lot of rice and dehydrate whatever is on sale in the fall for winter use. Liked your suggestions for various zests - really cool ideas!
Yogurt maker! Steamer! Rice cooker! Yes, please, include me in the running.
I would love to experiment with my own vegan yogurt, but I would probably use the steamer function most often. I have a steamer thingy but it always sink into the boiling water. I'd love to have steamed veggies more often.
I have wanted to experiment with yogurt made with almond milk. And I've been playing with steamed faux meats. That steamer looks like I wouldn't have to do the steaming in two batches. Count me in.
I would love to try this appliance and go crazy with foods to impress my friends and family. Thanks!
Wow, that thing is amazing! I'm already thinking of so many things to make with it!
wow... that appliance is amazing. I would love to try every thing from the yogurt making to dehydrating everything imaginable. I've never done those things so it should be so exciting to have a fool proof way of making delicious meals.
hey river! i linked back to this giveaway in my last post: http://janeandjordan.blogspot.com/
How cool! I would dehydrate some of my herbs. They happen to be the only thing growing much this year in the garden and they are going wild. I hate to have to throw so many of them away. Wooo Hooo.. Pick me oh might number generator!!!
Hey River! I've been a fan of your blog for a long time and now and recently started my own. Oh my goodness, I have a list of raw recipes a mile long bookmarked on my computer that I'd love to make if only I could dehydrate them!!! And I'd love to try and make my own vegan yogurt. I'm kind of obsessed with yogurt but honestly, those soy ones are not good :\
ahhh!!! I want to make fruit leateher!! and vegan yogurt and all kind of dehydrated chips!
I would love to dehydrate some of my summer veggies to have them for winter and maybe put them in my soups and stews.
Oh my goodness this appliance sounds amazing!!!
I'm currently a lacto-vegetarian, but would love to go vegan if only I could find a good yogurt! I am addicted to dairy yogurt, I eat a ton of it (actually I buy 64 ox tubs of Nancy's plain yogurt) but haven't been able to find a single decent tasting plain soy yogurt.
I also adore dried mangos and dried veggies. I spend way too much money on dried fruits and veggies at whole foods and trader joes! I'd love a dehydrator to make my own!
If I had that machine the first thing I would do is buy a case of mangoes and and eat dehydrated mango slices forever.
I would love to have that mondo machine and try my hand at dehydrating different fruits!!!
I would love to be able to dehydrate some of the amazing fruit we get at our farmers' market all summer - especially the peaches (or will it be too late by then?!?)
Wow, how cool! I would really love to play with the dehydrator. I'd like to dehydrate some fruit now to use in oatmeal when it gets cold. Plus I think it would really help me incorporate a lot more raw meals into my diet(although I don't think I can ever give up brown rice. which this device would also help me make).
Oh wow, I would go crazy with this thing. I'd probably start with dehydrating fruits. I don't have any of the individual appliances, and have a teeny tiny apt. so this would be perfect!
That machine looks so fancy! I have been wanting to get a dehydrator. This looks like fun!!!
OMG! I want to make raw flax bread so I can make raw pizza!
but don't even get me started on all the yogurt recipes I would involve myself in.
this may be my all team dream appliance!
WELCOME BACK!
Oh. My. WORD. I want that! hahaha. I have been dying to make dehydrated cheesy kale chips! Also, I'm having to be soy-free for the moment, so I'd love to try making yogurt with an alternate milk option.
I'd probably turn from vegetarian into a vegan with all the food I could make with this! I would make steamed rice and veggies for just about every meal and then dry some fruit on top of that. :)
Wow! What cool dehydrating ideas. I would buy lots of summer fruit and dehyrate it to have as snacks, or throw it on top of homemade yogurt. Yum!
i know it's been done before...but i'd kill for some dehydrated pineapple or apples!
ps i'm linking to this contest through my blog!
This thing is awesome! Oh, I would love to make my own yogurt, fuit pleather, and rice (I can't seem to make a perfectly cooked pot of rice).
Hi!
I would love to have this BABY in my house. Besides the fact that I love LOVE love yogurt (and eat it everyday) I would use it as a dehydrator, because I want my family to have a healthy and tasty snacks. And what can be better than dry fruit ?
wow! i am also a chronic rice over-cooker, so that would be great, but i have been wanting to do more with dehydrated fruits lately as well. how do they pack so much into one machine?!
um coconut milk yogurt and duh dried fruit
I had no idea such a thing even existed! I love it! I'd use it to dehydrate fruit most often. I've also never made yogurt, so I'd have to try that out.
I would love, love, love to make my own yogurt and we don't have a rice cooker (use the pressure cooker) and we've always wanted a dehydrator. How cool that this does it all!!!!
I'd love to steam veggies and make rice. It would be great to make yogurt too!
Tomatoes tomatoes tomatoes!!!
I would LOVE, LOVE to use this machine to make fresh yogurt and lots of YUMMY dried berries.
OMG what an appliance! I would make raw onion bread immediately!
Oh my great! I would definitely love the yogurt making aspect. Seriously, you are awesome for this giveaway!
This is such a cool product! I would love to make some nut milk/hemp milk yogurt and some dehydrated raw crackers (totally random, I know)
You sure were busy with this thing for only having it a few days. If I had one I would try making dried fruit to put into granola and then make some yogurt to put the granola in. Sounds like a fun toy!
I don't even know where I would begin with this! I like the idea of green powder for my smoothies but also the yogurt application seems awesome! I would love to be able to make my own. It is so expensive to get good vegan yogurt! Wow, I am salivating just thinking about using that awesome tool!
I'm really impressed with all of your experiments and happy to see you are back posting. I've missed you and your great sense of humor. I think the idea of making date sugar sounds really awesome but I have to admit the idea of making my own yogurt is really appealing to me.
I would love to have this appliance. I try to make my own yoghurt (a bit inefficiently right now, using my oven), so this would be handy for that. This would also be a boon for making rice and steaming veggies, but I think I'm super excited by the dehydrating possibilities. I think this would be a great way to cut down on my waste, in terms of both energy and food.
oh gosh I am so glad my new vegan and raw adventures lead me to your blog! I have been dying to try out dehydrating as I learn more ways to make things from the pulp of juicing and to use it for making granola bars!
Whaaa??!! River, you have got to ditch all these other comments so that I can win! I love yogurt, so that's cool... but most of all it seems so super cool to have a dehydrator. I have SO MUCH fruit to dehydrate. I have orange trees, apple tree, fig and apricot trees, plus family persimmon trees and pear trees, and loads of strawberries and raspberries. I end up freezing so much that my freezer is bursting at the seams... and lately I've been dreaming of dehydrating.
Also, it's rad to see a post from you. I was just thinking of you and your blog last night... missing your wacky concoctions!
I have a montage of the awesome things that I could make with this flashing through my head! Steaming seitan, making veggie and fruit chips, oh my..
I wrote about your giveawy in my blog. http://broccolimakesmehappy.blogspot.com/2009/06/german-apple-cake.html
what a cool machine! Like you, I have a bit of trouble getting rice cooked and veggies steamed just right, so I would love it just for that. But I'd love to get creative with the dehydrator too... I just went vegan recently and am exploring tons of new recipes and techniques, which is why a healthy chef would be so awesome to have!
Holy cow that is one awesome machine! I would love to have it as my husband and I were just talking last night about how we need to shrink our kitchen applicances- and need a dehydrator!
We wanted to make fruit leather with the beets from our CSA but we are lacking the dehydrator...
I would love to win!
If I win I am totally stealing your dry zest idea!
This machine looks like my dream come true!!! I would make eggplant "bacon." AHHH I can't get over how cool this is.
I'd love to make pizza crust and my own little fruit roll ups. Damn that thing looks cool as heck!
That appliance looks awesome! I hope I win it :)

Your green powder is absolutely ingenious!
I'd love to win the Healthy Chef mostly for the dehydrator. I've wanted one for forever but won't ever buy it for myself.
Who thought up this amazing machine?? I'd be most excited to make non-dairy yogurt. Used to eat that stuff constantly with cereal (my addiction) and have missed it.
I had no clue that such a thing was on the market. WOW! My dehydrator was purchased in the stone age and I've been dreaming about making my own soy and coconut milk yogurts. Your little light bublbs have my brain just a buzzin'.
What an amazing kitchen tool - I love how it combines all sorts of items into one! I would make yogurt first! I admit, I am a lurker - but I love your blog! Peacenlove, Juliette
Awesome giveaway. We could definitely use this to make tons of things to post about on our blog :) I think being able to dehydrate fruit would be the best part and being able to make yogurt. Thanks for having the contest

I would LOVE this appliance, I've been looking for a dehydrator.
The first think I would do with this is make Raw Corn Chips in the dehydrator!! YUM!!
I'm always looking for fully functional gadgets that let me get rid of more clutter in my kitchen. Even if I don't win it, I will be buying it!
Raw dehydrated tortillas would be first on a long, long list.
WoW! So many possibilities!!!! I think I would start with a vegan jerky, since I've always wanted to do that. This thing would seriously come in handy for preparing for backpacking and camping trips!
oooh! i would love to win so i can make homemade raw bars...and i have always wanted to try homemade yogurt!!
Whoa, dude, a multi-taskin' machine extraordinaire!
I have a dehydrator, but it's BIG and LOUD. I would love love love love love to make my own homemade soy and coconut yogurts. We spend faaaaaaar too much weekly on those stupid mini vegan yogurts for the kids because they don't make the ones we like in big tubs. But to make my own, ahhhh!
This thingie looks worth the counter space to me!
Wow! Who knew such a thing existed? Dehydrated lemon zest is genius! I'd like to dehydrate my garden veggies to use for soup when camping.
I love its versatility and use-friendliness! Awesome! I would love to try making homemade yogurt. Thanks for the chance to win!
I would love my to try to make yogurt. And fruit chips. And devour them together!
Oh my Gosh! I would love to win this! I would absolutely love to try some of the examples you gave. I would also love to try dehydrating some other fruits to mix in with yogurts and smoothies and such. I also need a rice cooker like you wouldn't believe! I'm so sick of getting rice stuck to pots and pans cooking it on the stove. I linked back on my blog here:

Oh gosh I'm a college student and would never be able to afford something like this! But I love cooking vegan food for all my friends, and the dehydrator would be amazing for some of my more "gourmet" meals :).
I would love this awesome appliance. I could really use it at school as my school isn't very vegan-friendly. I have also been raw-fooding it over the summer, so a dehydrator would be awesome. I have been wanting one but I don't have the $$.
Hi! Is that thing for real? Because I used to make yogurt and that would be awesome..... also dehydrating. I have dehydrated tomatoes in my convection oven but that's not a really great use of natural gas (and it ties up the oven for 24 hours!!!) so I will say TOMATOES. Not very original, but very practical!!!

Thank you so much for your review! I was pretty excited about appliance before I read your review - but holy cow! The things this thing can do! I have been throwing away strawberries lately because I can't eat them all before they go bad - but dehydrating them would stop me from wasting!!!
oh boy oh boy oh boy! I would raid the farmer's market and dehydrate every fruit I can get my hands on! Esp some bananas!!!
and I just linked back to you from my blog :)
I would love to win the Healthy Chef Appliance. I think the first thing I would dehydrate are some good ole fruits and veggies!

Goody this competition is not over I hope. I have been looking for a yougurt maker for a long time and this would really help.
Extremely excited about the dehydrator part of the appliance. I bought Juliano's Raw Cookbook a couple of years ago, but there are so many things I haven't made in it because you need a dehydrator. Pick me, Random Generator!
i am loving what i hear and well i want one regardless if i win so give me the deets
Suddenly River Goddess appeared out of nowhere and left words of wisdom on my humble blog - dare I ask?
